Knives Out movie review

I am once again back with a new movie review and this time we are taking a look at Knives Out written and directed by Rian Johnson and stars everyone, I mean there are so many amazing movie stars in this film such as Daniel Craig, Christopher Plummer, Ana De Armas etc. This was the second time I saw this film and damn did I like it, maybe even more than the first time around.

Knives Out (2019)
Synopsis: Detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) is called to investigate the death of a famous crime author Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer). The cause of death appears to be suicide, however Benoit Blanc suspects foul play and everyone else is a suspect.

My thoughts: This film is a brilliant murder mystery brought to the modern day. I mean this is such an ingenious film, the writing is great, the characters were really good and there was a lot of things I missed the first time around seeing it. And the thing I most like about it is the fact that it is not based on already existing books or a remake of an older movie, but a brand new whodunnit with original characters and story.
For the most part the characters are charismatic and I like how they are written, but I think there is one character that bothers me a bit, but let's talk about that later.

Firstly let's talk about Daniel Craig as Benoit Blanc and his southern accent in this film. At first I was a bit bothered by his accent but I did not have to wait long to get used to it, but I think there will be people who can't get over it. And its so over the top that you know he is doing it on purpose and the performance he gives is really good, maybe not his best but still really good.

Ana De Armas as Marta Cabrera is also just amazing in this film and her best performance yet, and I hope she will get more great roles like this. Overall the actors are just great and there is no weak link, just amazing performances all around.
However I think Jacob Thrombey (Jaeden Martell) as a character is a bit boring. He is on his phone a lot and is often the butt of the jokes and fells like he is there only to be laughed at, which only bothers me because the movie otherwise is so clever and the other characters are so great. I feel like if they had done something more with the character it would have been great.

Rian Johnson does a great job with this film in balancing the comedy and the tension, which can be quite hard to do in a comedy so that the audience feels tension when you want them to. On this viewing I also that a lot of detail had been put into scenes and foreshadowing of stuff later to come. Knives Out is also a great looking film and I really love the setting, I man the mansion is just an amazing location and I would love to visit that place. Rian Johnson's take on the on the murder mystery is interesting and I like that it gives you information about stuff and let's you know a lot more early on that you would think, but still manages to surprise at the end.

Verdict: I think Rian Johnson really knocked it out of the park with this one and I can not wait for Knives Out 2. The movie is funny, tense and the cast is great. I'm going to give this movie a 8.5/10.

Have you watched Knives Out, and if so what did you think? Also I have made an Instagram account dedicated to this blog and I will try to post some stuff there. So go and follow me there: @filmbuff_blog

The Courier movie review

(Theatrical release poster) The Courier (2020) is written by Tom O'Connor and directed by Dominic Cooke. It is a espionage drama/thriller and it takes place during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Synopsis: Greville Wynne (Benedict Cumberbatch) a British Businessman is recruited by the MI6 and the CIA to provide crucial intelligence to prevent nuclear war between the Soviet Union and USA. To do this he forms a covert partnership with Oleg Penkovsky (Merab Ninidze) a Soviet officer. My thoughts: I enjoyed this film and don't have too much anything bad to say about it. I think Benedict Cumberbatch does an excellent job as usual, he is believable, he has depth and brings emotion to the character and the movie. Also the other actors do a great job and I want to mention Merab Ninidze, who plays the Soviet officer who helps to provide ...
